1173 Not long after William Bowman Hibbard moved to East Troy, Wisconsin (in 1836), about thirty miles from the port of Milwaukee, he proposed marriage to Adaline, whom he knew from his hometown of Hadley, MA. His proposal was greeted with such lack of enthusiasm by her father, Horace Smith, that the wedding took place without his immediate blessing on April 10, 1838, in Racine, WI, twenty miles or so away. Very soon, however, peace prevailed. Another log house was built, a large farm hewed out and William became head of his own family. Here two daughters were born. Family: William Bowman HIBBARD / Adaline SMITH (F2368)

1174 Note: 1928 reunion article stated William's three daughters resided in Endicott, NY

1180 NOTE:(mhs) North Collins did NOT exist in 1850. It was formed from part of Collins in 1852/3 and was originally called Shirley. Shirley Rd. is one of the few remaining vestiges of it's short-lived name. The name Shirley was not popular with the townspeople and within a year the name Shirley was changed to North Collins. Therefore, many of the persons that you find are listed in the 1850 Collins census and then in the North Collins 1855, 1860, etc. censuses probably did not actually move. They were still living where they always did; just the name of their area was changed.

Book, History of Town of Concord, pg. 754- "Enos S. Hibbard was born in North Collins, April 24, 1841, Where he has ever since claimed residence. His father, Thomas S. Hibbard, was an old resident of North Collins, and died in 1881. His mother, Clarinda Southwick, was a daughter of Enos Southwick, Esq., of Gowanda. Mr. (Enos) Hibbard was married in 1867 to H. Josephine Hall, of Rochester, NY., who was born Aug. 14, 1846. They have six children, as follows: Hoyt R., born March 30, 1871. Howard G., born March 19, 1873. Irene, born April 4, 1875. Clarinda, born July 3, 1876. Fred L., born Oct. 21, 1878. Edgar H., born Sept. 11, 1880."

Book" History of Town of Concord-pg. 729 lists Thomas S. Hibbard as Justice of the Peace in 1853 and 1874. Lists T.S. Hibbard as Justice of the Peace in 1877. (Assume all same person.) Pg. 730-731 under Town Officers of N. Collins: Collectors, 1872 - Thomas S. Hibbard 1873- NOTE: "In 1873, owing to a fear of spreading small-pox, no town meeting was held, and the officers elected the previous year held over."

In the 1870 census, Thomas and his second wife Lovicy were living with his son Enos.

The 1875 census, pg. 14, #128-#129 lists Harriet Hicks, age 59, f, boarder, widowed, born Cayuga, native, living with the Thomas Hibbard family.

The 1880 census indicated both of Thomas' parents were born in VT.

Book, History of the Original Town of Concord, etc., Pg. 754: Enos Hibbard's father was Thomas S. Hibbard, an old resident of N. Collins; his mother was Clarinda Southwick, daughter of Enos Southwick, Esq. of Gowanda. Book, Desc. of Southwick's, pg.233 lists Thomas' middle name as Schovil.

1183 NOTES: All the children were born with the courtesy title of "Honourable" as the issue of a Viscount. They later became "Lady" (or, in the case of Charles, Viscount Althorp) upon the death of their grandfather the 7th Earl Spencer and the succession of their father to the earldom.

SPENCER, Hon. Sarah (I9110)

1184 NOTES: John Spencer, 8th Earl of Spencer. Divorced from the Hon. Frances Burke Rouche. Formerly: Viscount Althorp, son and heir of the 7th Earl Spencer. Lord Althorp was an equerry to King George VI from 1950-52 and to Queen Elizabeth from 1952-54. In 1955 Lord Fermoy died and the Queen allowed the Althorps to retain their lease of Park House. SPENCER, Viscount Edward John VIII, Earl of Spencer (I9108)

1185 NOTES: Lady Diana Spencer (before her marriage to Charles) was popularly known as: "Shy Di". Diana Spencer's ancestry (through her father) links her with more than one King and she and Prince Charles are 16th cousins, once removed. Diana weighed 7 lbs. 12 oz. at birth. She is 5' 10" tall, has blond hair and blue eyes. Diana's descent from Frank Work links her with many famous Americans: George Washington, John Adams (2nd U.S. Pres.), The Roosevelt family, Calvin Coolidge, John Pierpont Morgan, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Louisa M. Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Gloria Vanderbilt, Erle Stanley Gardner, General George Patton, George Gallup (of Gallup polls fame) Nelson Bunker Hunt, Orson Welles, Humphrey Bogart and Lee Remick, among others. Their engagement was announced by Buckingham Palace on 24 February 1981.
