- Family lived 12 miles out of town. Noted in her sister Laura Wilder's books. Although she was born during the events of Little House on the Prairie, this is not made known in the books. The reason for this is that Laura first wrote Little House in the Big Woods with no intention of writing an entire series of books. However, due to the success of this book and Farmer Boy, Laura was persuaded to continue the story of the Ingalls as they journeyed west. Laura did not wish to exclude the family's stay in Kansas, and as Baby Carrie had already been born when the events in Little House in the Big Woods occurred, Laura just included her in the trip to Kansas, as well. In the early books, Carrie is the baby of the family and is not included in her sisters' adventures. However, after Mary's blindness and the family's move to the Dakotas, the books focus more on the interaction between Laura and Carrie. She lived within the boundaries of the Osage Diminished Reserve in Independence, KS after August 3, 1870. She lived in Pepin, WI before October 1873. She lived on the banks of Plum Creek in Walnut Grove, MN between May 1874 and July 1876. She lived in Burr Oak, IA between 1876 and 1877. She lived in Walnut Grove, MN before 1879. She lived in De Smet, SD between 1879 and 1905. About 1890 she was a Typesetter in De Smet, SD. De Smet News. She lived in Boulder, CO in 1905. She lived in Wyoming in 1906. She lived in De Smet, SD after 1907. Before 1910 she was a Newspaper Manager. The Keystone Recorder and later was in charge of the Hill City Star. She lived in Keystone, SD after 1924. She died on June 6, 1946 in Keystone, SD. She was buried in South Dakota. She was Scotch, English, and French. She was also known as Carrie Ingalls. Was an independent young woman, and though single, she filed on a homestead claim in Top Bar, South Dakota. Was active in church and community affairs and received a 50-year life membership in the Eastern Star.
