1104 William Hibbard was a captain in the Colonial army and was also in the War of the Revolution. When the British ships apeared before New London in 1778, he marched with a company of men to the relief of the endangered town. HIBBARD William (I698)
 
1105 William, after moving to East Troy, Wisconsin in 1836 and marrying Adaline in 1838, made frequent trips to Milwaukee as a leader of small caravans loaded with produce from the surrounding farms. It apparently attracted him to that growing city and he became a so-called "early settler" of Milwaukee in 1843. His continued dealings in products of the near-by country extended to receiving and shipping coal and lumber by lake transport - and soon to ownership in vessels, pioneering in plank roads and the Milwaukee and Mississippi Railroad, the first to be extended westward in the state.
